Ray j/VH1
I am a pretty big fan of the reality shows on VH1/MTV. I have watched just about all the shows. Some of the reality shows are just pure genius, while others are getting to be predictable.
The King of reality shows, in my opinion, is The Real World. Same scenario, but they always seem to bring a new element to the show.
Other shows that are not that bad are the Documentaries, and even Jersey Shore. But there is one type of Reality Show that needs to be retired:
Dating Reality Shows
I watched Flavor of Love when it first aired, and even watched 2 & 3. At the time it was the newest kind of show and gave us a break from the older shows.
The success was huge! Everyone I knew practically watched the show, and they all had their choice of who he should pick. So it’s no surprise that shows like I Love Newyork, A Shot at Love, and Rock of Love all came about. And again, I watched them all.
All these shows were successful so I should have expected what happened next. All of them starting having sequels. Go figure that no true love was found. You only have like a month-in-a-half in the house, so anyone watching the show should be wise enough to know that it’s not real. These cast members are there for our entertainment and to get their 15 minutes of fame. I have no problem with that because it is entertaining.
But I wish MTV/VH1 would stop beating a dead horse. With the addition of Real Chance of Love, My Antonio, and For the Love of Ray J they have officially killed the Dating Reality Game. (Especially Ray J’s show)
It’s gotten to the point where the script is predictable:
- The Star gives all the cast members nicknames
- He/She sleeps with them all
- Fights happen
- He/She picks one
- They breakup after the show
- Lets get ready for the sequel
Did I miss anything?
I think it is time for them to retire these kinds of shows and focus more on new additions. Reality Shows are the best bet for MTV/VH1 but they need to continuously come up with new ideas.
