J-Riv is back with another one, and this time he asks one simple question: “Is U?”…
The fact that this song came out at this particular time is interesting. There have been a lot of questions asked lately. But this song isn’t about the recent beef, it’s more of a check list, and on loyalty. So get your pen and pad ready because we are about to go through it.
1. Is you on the grind?
2. Is you getting dough?
3. Is you stacking money?
4. Is you getting moe?
5. Is you thuggin’ hard?
6. Do you pistol totin’?
7. Do you get it legal?
8. Is you flippin’ dope?
I think he pretty much covered all the basics, and covered all types of people. The fact that he mentioned people getting money “legally” says a lot. I can remember when rappers getting legal money were looked down upon by some people. There is this notion that if you aren’t selling dope, you can’t be a rapper. I think it’s still there, especially in the south, but we are slowly coming out of that mindset.
There are some standout lines in this track, but the one that stuck out immediately was:
“If yo ass ain’t no priest, then this ain’t no damn confession”
What the song boils down to is loyalty. You’ll understand if I don’t go into the importance of loyalty, right? You should already understand its importance…
If you like songs that have a street feel, but are tired of hearing about how much “dope I’m slangin‘”, check this one out!
