If you are like me then you know how important a good belt is. I for one wear my jeans a size too big, and am in constant need of a belt. Aside from that, a cool, colorful belt is an important part of your ensemble.
In the days of boring belts you had two choices; Black or Brown. We have come a long way from those embarrassing days, and find ourselves surrounded by colorful belts, that are embossed with original designs and have that extra flare to complete your outfit.
But with all these choices, how will belts stand out? This is where Strapped Up Waistwear comes in. They are a new start-up company and have decided to make their mark in the belt world.
The company is ran by three full time students. I spoke with one of the owners, Jeff, who is currently a student at Detroit Country Day School. The other two, John and Matt, are both in college at Northwestern University and Duke University.
When they set out to make and design a new belt their goal was to make it eye-catching and original. They chose the name Strapped Up, which can have two meanings. The first is the simple fact that you are wearing a belt; strapping up. The second is the most commonly referred to meaning of having a gun.
Playing off of these two interpretations gave these guys the idea to add a squirt gun to the belt. You may be thinking, “What the hell is the purpose of that”? But can you honestly say that you wouldn’t mess around with it? It would certainly draw attention to your outfit, and your pelvic area, and would accomplish what they set out to create.
They currently offer these belts in three colors; Grey, Royal, and Tan. And they are selling for $30.00. While they continue to sell their belts at their college campuses and online, they are also in a few stores. These stores include Caruso Caruso in Birmingham, MI., and Modern Skate and Surf at their locations in the Detroit Metro Area. They have also grabbed the attention of Karmaloop, who will be carrying their belts in the Spring.
What I like about this belt is that it is an original idea, and is a fun piece to add to your outfit. It is a good accessory for hitting the clubs or parties. Why be stuck in the same boring belt. It is time to standout!
