For a few months now I had a guy hit me up repeatedly telling me to check out his homeboy Skinny P, now for those of you that don’t know I lived in the 850 for almost 10 years before moving to Chicago. Until recently I had never heard a Skinny P mixtape, I heard of him before but never got a chance to check out his music. So a few weeks ago one of Skinny P’s boys sent over the “New Money” mixtape for review.
Finally I got an opportunity to listen to the “New Money” mixtape and it’s entirely, and I’m not going to lie, I enjoyed it for the most part. I really expected it to suck, but as I told a few people from the 850 the project didn’t suck.
The mixtape is made up of majority commercial type material, meaning you probably won’t see backpackers bumping it, but to his credit its not “stanky leg” type commercialism. “Commercial Rap” can be defined and many different ways, it all depends on who your asking, but this article is not about condemning commercial material. What I personally mean by commercial type material is it seems like his target is radio and clubs. Now as a businesses man, I completely understand, spins on the radio and spins in the clubs equals dollars signs. To be fair the whole mixtape is not made up of just club and female songs but there’s tracks for the homies on blocks as well.
Overall the mixtape was good, the hooks weren’t complex, yet they we’re memorable and catchy. The beat selection was hot for the most part. As a whole I was impressed with the mixtape , but I wasn’t really impressed with the actual lyrics. The lyrics didn’t suck, but they weren’t anything special. I’m big on Multisyllabic rhymes (Google it) better known as “Multies” . I completely understand that every rapper and their fans expect their guy to get the highest score, I get that. I know every rapper thinks everything he puts out is a classic, but as always I encourage everybody and I do mean everybody, to download the mixtape for yourself and judge the project for yourself. I’m giving the homie a good rating, 6.5 Stars

This is one of the best put 2gether mixtapes from this area, as far as representin the real FWB life and the construction of the album, im fuckin wit it.
