I had the opportunity to check the new Jay Rock mixtape “Hood Tales To The Cover Of XXL” hosted by the one and only Whoo Kid. I’m not going to lie, I think Jay Rock’s mixtape is probably going to be better then Ice Cube’s up coming album. I know every old head that grew up in the 90s is probably cursing their computer screen out right now, but hold up! Don’t get me wrong Cube is a legend no doubt, but legends can get mopped up too, ask Mr. Carter. If you been following hip hop I’m sure you know what I’m referring to on both tips.
Rappers like Jay Rock are considered the “New West”, it seems some from old generation such as Ice Cube don’t want to pass the torch or let go. Whatever Ice Cube’s problem or beef with Jay Rock maybe one issue, but Jay Rock’s mixtape may very well be better then Cube’s project. Only time will tell.
Jay Rock’s new mixtape has a old school cali feel to it. There are a few low rider tracks on there where you can picture yourself cruising down the block with a West Coast swag. The mixtape is laid back for the most part, as I already stated it has a strong cali feel. If your not a West Coast fan you probably won’t like the beats, the feel or the swag of the mixtape. Lyrically the kid can spit, he gets a big bonus for that. Make sure you download the mixtape.

Yea, I read Cube’s blog where he said he wasn’t gonna help out the New West, that nobody helped him. In a way I understand where he is coming from, but then again I completely disagree!

I havent gotten the chance to hear this tape, but jay rock is an animal, i fucks with him. shout out to every freshmen who made the cover of the xxl to ten freshmen issue, except for O.J., he cant rhyme. lol. but shit, gucci push him like 50 did gunit, so hes actually getting mad shine.
