J-Riv drops his new Mixtape: “Grind Hard or Go Home”

I’ve been listening to J-Riv’s new mixtape “Grind Hard or Go Home” for two days now, and I’m going to get right to the point: It is extremely nice!

Some may say I’m biased because I have know J-Riv for some years now, but this mixtape is not anything that I have heard from him before. With all the push back dates, it’s obvious that he put the time and effort into making it the best he could.

The first thing that stood out, besides the bangin’ ass intro, was the sound quality. Throughout the whole mixtape it was clear and super crispy. That’s one of the most important aspects to me. I hate when it sounds okay on the computer, but terrible in the car.

If you have been following Skewln.com for some time now, then you are familiar with who J-Riv is, and you probably know that he is from my Hometown in Florida. His sound is a reflection of this area, but I can hear some West Coast feel in there too.

The one thing that he makes very clear is that he is a Southern rapper with East Coast lyrics, and that is the truth. He is actually spitting, and putting bars together with structure. Riv’s sound is not the stereotypical southern sound that many artists down here have fallen to. And to be honest, his sound may not be fore everyone. He has a more laid back approach to the mic, but makes sure you hear every word that he is saying.

I’m up in the air about what song is my favorite. Right now, it is between Rivers So Hot and Survival of the Fittest. Survival of the Fittest is nothing but three-and-a-half minutes of raw emotion. Anybody who knows me knows that these are my favorite kind of tracks. Anybody can make a club song, or talk about how much “Money” they have, but not everyone can tap into their emotions and broadcast it out to the whole world.

With that being said, I think that Rivers So Hot is the best reflection of what J-Riv has become. He is truly spittin’, and is making sure he doesn’t waste a single bar.
