CDBaby: $9 gets your song everywhere

CDBaby has long been recognized by the Indie world as a valuable resource because of the company’s online distribution. According to their website, the company has sold over 5 million cds online, and has paid over $100 million to artists.

Now they are expanding their digital distribution to include iTunes, Amazon MP3, Rhapsody and many many more. This expansion is part of their new Singles Program. For a one-time setup fee of $9, you can upload and sell a single song on all of their digital retail partners. And for a limited time, they will throw in a barcode at no extra charge ($20 value).

There is more good news, CDBaby is only keeping 9% of the net earnings. Their website claims to have no hidden fees, and will only make money when you sell. And hopefully you will.

Now what?

Well, you need to get creative and make that hit single. Don’t go over to Soundclick and start downloading free beats. Majority of them are for non-commercial use, which means you can’t sell them. If there is a beat that you are sure is THE ONE, get in contact with the producer to get exclusive rights. This will allow you to sell the finished song without any repercussions.

Then you will need to create an account on CDBaby and have at least $9.00.
