There is no doubt that Digital Distribution is here to stay. It’s been here for sometime now, but is has been available mainly to the Big Labels.
Yesterday I wrote an article about CDBaby’s digital distribution packages, and now Reverbnation has enhanced theirs.
It works pretty much the same way, you can distribute your music to every major music store for one flat fee. And if you are familiar with Reverbnation, they have these built in tools for online promotions.
There are two packages available; Pro and Essentials. Here is the difference:The Pro package gets you into 39 stores for $59.95/year, while the Essentials package only gets you into 29 stores for $34.95/year. You still get the Built-In Marketing Tools, Free Trending Reports, and Sales Reported to Soundscan.
What is Trending Reports?
Here is how Reverbnation put it:
A trending report is a weekly update from iTunes and eMusic that shows unofficial sales activity for those two retailers during a given week. Only sales within the last 90 days are shown on the trending report and new data is added weekly. Official sales data from retailers is updated once per month (approximately 60 days after the end of each month).
Lets get one thing clear too. You are just submitting your music to all these retailers. There is no guarantee that your music will be placed with them. Each retailer has the right to refuse your music. Common reasons for refusal include the quality of the recording or cover art.
Mike Real has been preaching the need to invest in quality recording products such as, ProTools and a good mic. There is a reason why these products are on the market, and a reason why people use them. If you are not going to invest the time into learning how to use the products, then invest the money in someone who knows what they are doing.
Reverbnation has given you a platform to get into stores that you would normally not be able to get into. Now it’s up you to make quality sounding music.
