I got an email the other day telling me to check these New York artist name Bebe Boohgz. At the time I hadn’t heard the name before, so being that it was a new name I was a little excited.
Now when I first popped in The Jack Move mixtape the first few songs had me impressed, but as the mixtape went forward I got a little confused. When I hear the word mixtape I think of a project thats going to give me the “real” side of the artist. An opportunity for the artist to display his/her true talent. Mixtape are little less catchy then an album and the focus is mainly on bars. Keyword “Bars”! Punchlines and metaphors. Thats what we’re looking for in a mixtape,right?
Well, as I made my way from the beginning of the project to the end I found myself very disappointed. I heard a lot of Drake, T-pain , Em, etc but very little Bebe. Look at this list of features on the project. BeBe Boohgz, Drake, Rihanna, Jeezy, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Ludacris, Rick Ross, Twista, Big Sean, Olivia Cipolla, T Pain, Jay Z, Mr Hudson, Owl City, Duffy, John Mayer, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Kid Cudi, B.O.B. , Hayley Williams, Snoop Dogg. I mean seriously C’mon. Truthfully, I feel like I wasted my time. If I wanted to hear Drake and RiRi and all those other super stars in the music industry I would have just downloaded their music.
99.9% of the mixtape is featured artists from the industry.The tracks are pretty much the exact same as the ones you heard on the radio or on BET. Thats cool for a song here or there, but not every song. If he would have taken the beats and remade the song that would have been great. That way I would have seen Bebe’s creativity at his best.
I know its seems like I’m coming down hard on Bebe, but its nothing personal. I’m being honest. Bebe as an artist is nice. He has a lot of creativity which I love, but if I take the time to listen to a project I don’t want to hear 99.9% of another artist. I wanted to hear Bebe Boohgz. I wanted to see his true talent come out.
The mixtape was called The Jack Move, but i’m calling it A Jack move. It wasn’t a mixtape, its a Remix tape. This won’t be the last time you see Bebe on the site. I will continue to follow the homie in the days and weeks to come. Make sure you download the mixtape right (here)
