Mike Real : First things first, how does it feel to be “signed”, and how has your life changed since being signed?
Jamie Drastik : It feels good to have your work be recognized by someone you respect, but life doesn’t really change, I just got passed the ball it’s on me now to do something with it.
Mike Real : What was the process like leading up the finalization of the deal? (Mr.305 Inc deal)
Jamie Drastik : It was solely based on the music, I had made some noise on radio but not enough to cause a bidding war or anything. Once the music was digested the deal was final.
Jamie Drastik : Do as much as you can yourself, because in order to maintain your position in the music business you have to at least understand all sides of the business.
Mike Real : Alright let’s talk about your music. When I first heard your music I got to be honest I had no idea you was a white guy. There’s nothing wrong with that, because one of my Artist I produce is white and he’s dope. Did you have a hard time initially getting your peers to accept your music?
Jamie Drastik : My peers, no. Everyone else, yea… acceptance is a funny thing though. I’m not really worried about acceptance, because the truth is accepted everywhere, it’s like the Visa card.
Mike Real : We heard the Magnet mixtape, which was fire by the way. What can we expect from your album?
Jamie Drastik : Thank you. Similar content, some dope features, and bigger production along with my home team production, The Crew.
Mike Real : What producers are you working with on your album?
Jamie Drastik : I work with a Finland based production team (now in New York) called The Crew, which is a collaboration of a few really talented guys that have been extremely dedicated and loyal to my project. I am open to working with all talented producers that see my lane and can execute the sound for me.
Mike Real : You have been quite verbal about other artists in the industry on your twitter page. Name your top 5 artists in the game right now and why.
Jamie Drastik :Top 5 doing it right now….
5. Maino – I love to see an underdog win, plus I think his album was really well put together. ( I dont think hes on anyones top 5 lol)
4. Jeezy – The Recession is one of my fav albums of all time.
3. Wayne – I just feel like everything he does I have to at least make sure I check for it caz you never know what hes going to do.
2. Jay – Z – Self explanatory….
1. Cold Play – They out sell all the above artist combined. Plus I just really dig that big huge stadium sound, where 100k people are just all singing along.
Mike Real : Where do you expect yourself to be as an Artist and as a man in 5 years?
Jamie Drastik : I truly don’t know where I will be as an artist in 5 years, but I do know Im going to give it everything I have to make sure that 5 years from now is better than 5 years before. As a man, I just have to continue to practice my values and morals, and stay true to myself and give and attract positive energy.
Mike Real : I know its early in your career , but when its all said and done, what do you want your legacy to be in this rap game as a whole.
Jamie Drastik : A multi threat artist, good radio songs, and solid in that booth. But most of all someone who worked hard and provided opportunity to people who work just as hard. Legacy’s are for legends….damn that’d be really dope!
Mike Real : Indie Artists are the bread and butter of Skewln.com. So pretty much consider Skewln.com your home. Thanks for taking time out your schedule to chop it up us. Any shout out …?
Jamie Drastik : Big shout out to Skewin.com and the whole staff for doing this interview, The 845 and all the New York DJ’s that play my music. Shout out to Team Pitbull, Famous Artist Music, Mr. 305, The Crew Productions, my family and the people that support me. I don’t shout out haters.
