Harrisburg, Pa hasn’t really been on the map hip hop wise. There’s no doubt there are talented artists there looking for their break to make a difference and to be heard.
A few weeks ago I received an email with an link which lead me to J. Monday’s “The Sequel” mixtape. J Monday is an up coming artist from the streets Harrisburg, Pa. His vision is to bring his city out of the shadows, onto Hip Hop’s center stage with his authentic brand of music.
The Sequel is street, but not too street if you know what I mean. Its not so industry watered down, but out right raw. J Monday does his best to paint the picture of whats going on in his back yard. Don’t expect to hear happy music or gimmicky tactics.
If your looking for a catchy-ass mixtape, this mixtape is not for you. With its Northern style feel, the mixtape focuses on lyrics. Its far from catchy. This is a good thing, but depending on the mood of the day you may have to skip a track here and there. For the most part the project flows smoothly.
Beat section was mild, nothing too heavy. A few tracks to look out for: Hello, In the Mirror, Fastlane produced by Trizz, and Mz. Missouri. Overall the mixtape is better then most mixtapes that comes out today. Harrisburg, Pa. I see you, make sure you support. Download the mixtape here.
