RootMusic, the company behind the awesome Facebook app BandPage, has just announced the launch of the brand new YouTube Tracks feature which allows musicians the ability to collect royalties through the BandPage media player.
With over 3.1 million monthly active users, RootMusic is also set to publicly release the new 520 pixel version of BandPage through an automatic update that happened earlier in the week.
For those of you unaware, Facebook set a new tab width limit of 520 pixels. It was previously around 720 pixels.
The new design is slimmer, more streamlined, and fits within Facebook’s new application space.
Through YouTube Tracks and YouTube’s existing partner program, artists can collect ad revenue with each play of their songs on Facebook.
Superstars like 50 Cent and Kanye West are using BandPage, and labels can receive revenue from each song play on Facebook.

When asked about the service, CEO J Sider had this to say:
“For the past five months we have been going around the country asking musicians, managers, and labels what they are looking for, and that’s how we do it, its all about the music community.”
“By utilizing the Facebook network musicians now have a way to represent themselves where their fans are all the while getting paid for simply putting their music up for their fans to listen to.”
All artists who use BandPage are given a listn.to short link when you register, which allows you to send fans directly to your BandPage on Facebook. Check out Kanye West’s new video “Power” at listn.to/KanyeWest.
Big Artists are using the YouTube Tracks feature as a way of monetizing their music on Facebook. It’s a good idea because we spend all our time on the social networking site as it is. But the best feature is that Indie Artists can get in on the action too!!!
What Else?
To be clear, you do have to be a member of YouTube’s partner program. When the video plays, through the YouTube partner program, you can receive a portion of the ad-revenue that YouTube videos provide. YouTube will track the conversion and pay-out on their end.
Remember, RootMusic allows you to signup using your Facebook Login, which is cool since you don’t have to remember “another” login.
The app also streams your music using Soundcloud. If you don’t have an account, go ahead and sign up for one to speed up the process. It is much easier to sync to Soundcloud than upload the same music over and over (although you CAN do this). We use Soundcloud on Skewln for track submissions.
While BandPage is FREE to use, RootMusic also offers BandPage Plus. Features include:
- $1.99/month
- Customize font and color settings
- Add a unique banner
- Tools for adding custom background images

Oh, and post your Facebook Page link below if you are using the app. We wanna see!
