Comparing plays for Sam Adams, Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle, and Freddie Gibbs

I always like comparing numbers to see how artists actually stack-up against each other.

Previously, I ran Jamie Drastik’s name through NextBigSound to see if his numbers jumped during his “Light Up” freestyle campaign. I also ran X.O.’s name to see if the Kat Stacks drama made his overall views increase.

So why compare Sam Adams, Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle, and Freddie Gibbs?

Well, for one, they have all been featured on Skewln and we like to compare artists that we cover. And two, because all 4 of these guys have had coverage on major blogs and music sites! (In some cases, even the same sites)

So, let’s see the results

Comparing new plays for Sam Adams, Wiz Khalifa, Nipsey Hussle, and Freddie Gibbs

As you can see, Wiz Khalifa is dominating, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise. The guy has had the Indie World going crazy for some time now and recently signed with Atlantic records.

What’s interesting about our number two slot, Sam Adams, is that the guy really does a lot of networking on Facebook, not Myspace. A lot of his fans are there, and that’s how he interacts with them. He is the only artists out of the 4 with Youtube stats, and as you can see, it accounts for 81%.

Nipsey Hussle and Freddie Gibbs make up the last two spots, and it’s actually pretty dope to see that the two are matched up well. In fact, they both almost seem to peak around the same time too! Nipsey has gotten a lot of love on the site from both us, and readers, and has gotten quite a bit of publicity with his Pony shoe deal. So it’s interesting to see that while he is 0.3%+, Freddie Gibbs is almost 75%+.

Another interesting feature is the fact that their “Plays Breakdown” are the exact opposite. Nipsey has 86% Myspace, and 14% Last.fm, while Freddie has 15% Myspace and 85% Last.fm.

Conclusion

While some may say that putting Sam Adams and Wiz Khalifa in the same chart is unfair, I beg to differ. In fact, MTVu had both of them in the Best Freshman Video poll back in May.

While we might be able to say “of course” to Wiz Khalifa, the other 3 are dope up-and-coming artists. This comparison chart is not to see who is better, but to see how they all stack up. The fact remains that none of the artists are definite household names, but they are doing some impressive things!

I think Freddie Gibbs is the most lyrical out of that group

  4. John says:

Wiz is in a different category. He’s no longer indie, and is now mainstream. Freddie Gibbs is the best musician out of those 4. Hands down. Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal!!!
