A press kit is an essential package that all indie artists, not just rappers, should have. Previously, I dug into Reverbnation’s EPK and explained the importance of it. Although the press kit isn’t free, it’s definitely something to consider purchasing once you get the funds.
Why? Because music sites, club venues, and record labels don’t have the time to search for all your information. There are too many aspiring rappers out there to waste valuable time looking for your stuff.
Presenting these outlets with the correct information all in one package will make their job easier, and make you look like you know what you are doing. Think of the press kit as your first step toward being a professional…
I looked around the internet to find you a free press kit that you could use when submitting music to various outlets, but I came up short. All of them wanted some money.
So I decided to put together a VERY BASIC package that you can use to email other music sites, managers, etc.
There are 4 sections to the Press Kit:
- Music
- Photos
- Reviews and Interviews
- And a document to add your Bio, and other factual information
The first three are just folders that include a README file. Please read this! It includes instructions on what to add to these folders.
The document is a Word Doc file. There are 2 versions in case you are using an older version of Microsoft Word. The doc includes instructions in Red text, so it should be very simple to fill out.
Feel free to use this Press Kit for anything. If you are thinking of submitting music to Skewln, please fill this out and email to MrMikeReal[at]gmail.
(The file is in a zip format, so please unzip to get the folders)
