The time is here, Pink Friday will take the stage and be judged. With all the buzz surrounding the Queens femcee from the gay movement to the beef with Lil Kim, i’ts been a while since hip hop has had a dominate female in the game. Nicki Minaj is definitely filling those shoes.
There’s allot of mixed emotions about Nicki’s image or style but there’s no denying she has skills. For over a year now she’s hung with the pros and on many occasions out shined the legends (hint, hint Monster).
One key thing you should keep in mind if your debating on heading out to the store to cop the new Nicki Minaj album; Don’t be fooled by the first few singles. And let me clarified what I mean by singles. Just because its leaked on the internet doesn’t mean its a single. The official singles are Massive Attack, Your Love, Right Thru Me and Roman’s Revenge is in the drivers seat.
Make no mistake about it, three of the four tracks I just listed are there to serve the purpose of radio plays and 106 & Park. If you only heard those songs I could see how you may be iffy depending on what demographic you fall in. Don’t make that mistake! The album has much more substances then the gimmicks that has been displayed.
13 tracks and 6 features, 17 tracks if you get the deluxe copy. Nicki comes out the gates firing with the start the album. It’s clear she wanted to make a bold statement to the world in the track I’m the Best
“Cause even when my daddy was on crack, I was cracked now the whole album crack you ain’t gotta skip a track”
It doesn’t stop there the very next track she goes in hard on the Queen B, Lil Kim in Roman’s Revenge.
“You play the back, b*tch, I’m in the front
You need a job, this ain’t cuttin’ it
Nicki Minaj is who you ain’t f*ckin’ with”
The aggression continues over to Did It on ‘Em, but the album softens up with the single Right Thru Me . In the song she shows her singing ability and softer side. Fly featuring Rihanna is a female empowering song. The chorus says it all
” I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise to fly”
Moment 4 Life featuring label mate Drake reflects on success and in this moment she would like to capture the success in bottle. She looks back on her dreams and appreciates the moment , more so the success makes her feel alive.
A few other dope tracks are Blazin, Here I am, and Last Chance. At first glance the album was a little disappointing, but when I gave it a hard listen I found the album to be complete. With her rapping and singing abilities, she did a better job then drake at doing drake. Translations, she did a better job bouncing the two (Rapping & singing) talents on the album. The production was good. The feature selections were good and balanced. No one feature over overshadowed her on this project. With her rapping ability from word play to her Multies, delivery, and lyrics. She did her thing, and I got to respect it.
