Top 10 Indie Mixtapes of 2010: J-Riv’s Grind Hard or Go Home lands at #5

Jay Wills: The one thing that he makes very clear is that he is a Southern rapper with East Coast lyrics, and that is the truth. He is actually spitting, and putting bars together with structure. Riv’s sound is not the stereotypical southern sound that many artists down here have fallen to. And to be honest, his sound may not be for everyone.

He has a more laid back approach to the mic, but makes sure you hear every word that he is saying. I’m up in the air about what song is my favorite. Right now, it is between Rivers So Hot and Survival of the Fittest. Survival of the Fittest is nothing but three-and-a-half minutes of raw emotion.
