Why You Should Update Your Soundcloud Profile Information

Soundcloud is a great tool for artists, music lovers, labels, fans, and even the Skewln Staff. We use the Soundcloud Dropbox as another alternative for getting your music placed on the site.

It never fails, however, that we get a hot track sent to us with no info on who the artist is, or how we can reach them. And chances are that your Soundcloud Username isn’t even close to the stage name you use. (You can see how this can become difficult)

Soundcloud has many options for including the necessary information that you need to have. Not only is this beneficial to us and other websites, but for fans and potentially new ones.

Basic Profile Info

First and Last Name: This is a must, no questions asked. In the ‘First Name’ spot, you should have your stage name. If your stage name is something like “Jay Wills”, obviously you need to place “Wills” as your ‘Last Name’. This keeps everything nice and clean, and helps everyone get your name correct.

People want to know where you are from. Sure, you probably mention your city in a couple tracks, but people want to know instantly. Another reason why including your city is a good idea is because potential fans might live close to you, and come to a show. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found out artists live close to me, and make an effort to go see them.

Advanced Profile

Here you should fill out the Description Box at the top with information regarding you as an artist. I’m going to honest, no one really cares what age you started rapping, so keep the bio short and to the point. Don’t put too much fluff in there. It gets boring, and there is probably a lot of BS in there too. Describe your sound, influences, location, etc. All things that are relevant.

Next is a section called ‘You On The Web’. I still can’t believe how many artists don’t include links to Youtube, Facebook, or Twitter. We are looking for more info on you, and possibly even more songs/videos. Including these links will help you in the long run.

Conclusion

Soundcloud is becoming more and more popular as we speak. More artists are opting to use their platform instead of Myspace. Even though it’s dead simple to get started, make sure you don’t overlook a crucial aspect of your profile: Your Information.
