Producer Gives CyHi Da Prynce The Same Beat He Gave Machine Gun Kelly

This morning Machine Gun Kelly announced on his facebook page that he had just heard “Cyhi and BoB rapping on a beat that I already had for my album”. The Cleveland rapper went on to say, “that producer is shady is fuck. [I'm] so pissed right now”.

It’s no secret that MGK is working on his album. Exactly two weeks ago Kells told his fans, “I hope you all know that i have been working on an album. Don’t take my lack of new music for laziness”.

With his fans wanting new music, and MGK wanting to give the fans all he’s got, I can totally understand why he would be pissed at the producer.

While Machine Gun Kelly didn’t exactly say which song he was referring to, or the producer’s name, it looks like he might be talking about CyHi Da Prynce’s “Stadium” track that features B.o.B. The track was produced by Mel & Mus.

MGK’s fans immediately blew up the facebook post, saying MGK “would have been great on the track”, and “done a better job”. The only way we will know if that is true is if MGK goes ahead and drops the track. (From the sound of the beat, I seriously believe he would have murdered it)

Having a beat “taken” from an artist is nothing new. Ja Rule ended up using the same beat that Orlando rappers Smilez and Southstar used on the song “Tell Me”. As MTV News reported, “The song features a sample from the Stylistics 1971 tune, “Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart),” not to mention the same beat that appears in Ja Rule and Ashanti’s “Mesmerize.” Smilez and Southstar said they got the beat first, from Orlando’s DJ Nasty, but they hold no grudge against Ja for using it. “It’s just a coincidence that he used the same thing,” Smilez said.”

How can they hold a grudge against Ja Rule? It’s not his fault. The same goes for Machine Gun Kelly’s situation. He isn’t mad at CyHi Da Prynce or B.o.B., but rather the producer.

The Producer; let’s talk about that really quick. We often only focus on the artist and where their career is going, and sometimes forget that the producer has a career too. They are always trying to get to the next level too.

As one of MGK’s fans put it, “If a producer can get his beats on a B.O.B. track, I.e. commercially successful, he’s gonna do it, shady or not.”

I couldn’t help but think about how true that statement was. Smilez and Southstar got the beat first, but then comes along Ja Rule. Ja Rule was Mr. 106 and Park! What producer would say no to Ja?

MGK’s situation is almost identical. I’m sure he had the beat first, but then comes along CyHi Da Prynce who was featuring B.o.B.

It’s the same old song and dance, but without an artist gaining exclusive rights to use the beat, the producer is free to whatever he/she pleases.

It doesn’t make it right, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

Who thinks Machine Gun Kelly should drop the track on a mixtape?
