I like to hear good music all day everyday. Listening to good music helps us get through the everyday grind of the real world. We often load up our iPod or MP3 players with tons of music from our favorite artists. Once we’re set we hit the shuffle button and nothing else in the world matters.
Music has that ability to affect our daily lives in ways we can’t even some times explain. Being a Hip Hop Editor for Skewln.com gives me a great opportunity to listen to new artists along with new music. Four to five times throughout the week I get to load up my MP3 player with a ton of brand new material.
When you love music as much as I do it’s an exciting feeling waking up to new music to listen to. Normally there’s one project in particular I’m excited about and ready to listen to first, so as soon as I get on to the train I look up that project on my Pod. I’m looking and looking and looking and what do you know, I can’t find the project nowhere. No worries right, I’ll just do a search by the artist’s name. Wait, still no find…
This happens to me more times then not. The problem is simple, the artist did not bother to label his/her “Properties.” Some of you probably don’t even know what that is so I’m going to help you out and by making sure this problem doesn’t occur when your fans or new potential fans go to listen to your project.
When this problem normally occurs the listener is faced with a cross road. Depending on the artist I will either take the time to label the Properties myself, but more times then not I just delete the project off my computer. I’m willing to bet money that’s what most people do.
Another problem I have is artist some times forget to number the tracks correctly. I never been a fan of buying songs off of ITunes, just for the simple fact I can’t see the full picture the artist intended for me to see. Taking one song here and there and listening to a project out of order is not the same. Can you image watching a movie out of sequence? That would be a horrible experience to say the least. When listening to a project the way the artist intended to be, then you can make an honest assessment whether or not you like the project as a whole.
Here are a few easy steps to insure your fans and new potential fans hear your project the way you intended for them to hear it:
- Once you have all your tracks in one folder (label the folder with the name of the album, mixtape etc), arrange the order you would like the songs to go. Be sure to label tracks 1- 9 with a “0” in front of the number, so when people drag your music folder into their music player the project plays in order. For ex. “01”
- When done numbering your tracks, go to the first track and hit the right click button on your mouse. If you look way at the bottom you will find “Properties” (click it). When you click on it you will find General & Summary at the top. Click the tab that says summary. You will see a section that reads “Artist” double click it. After you double click it you will be able to add your name and the features names to the file.
- We’re not done! Make sure you title the one right below it that says “Album Title.” This is so important. After you enter the text, hit apply at the bottom.
We hope this is helpful to you. Got any question don’t hesitate to ask. Keep it locked!
